Mystery At the Museum: Teacher INformation
The Mystery at the Museum Game was created to give students an authentic research experience while at the same time intentionally walking them through the process of research (using the Big6 Model as a guide). The students work independently, using their Detective Notebooks, and move through the different parts of the game at their own speed. Through various challenges and "assignments" they practice keyword searches, selecting valuable resources, summarizing of information, and synthesizing in situations that feel natural within the storyline. At different points throughout the game, students are prompted to check in with the "Chief" (a.k.a. the teacher) to allow them to check progress, offer guidance and provide "assignments" as needed.
The ultimate goal of this game is to demonstrate to students that research is a natural process that is useful outside of school work and that it can be fun. It also highlights areas where skill sets could be improved and gives students an incentive (solving the mystery!)to try to develop these skills.
You can browse through the notebook below or download it for your class. For the teacher's edition, which includes all passwords and the "in story" assignments, please contact me directly at [email protected]. I will be happy to help you set up this project with your students!
Best,
Sarah

Below is a workbook that I created to guide students through the steps of the Big6 Research Process. Using comics to create a story line that frames the process in a real world scenario, students help Davis use the Big6 Research Model to decide what kind of dog would be best for his family. If you are interesting in using this workbook with your students please contact me at [email protected] and I will be happy to send you a copy.
